Health Tips That You Might Wanna Know!

The Symbol of Healing
While trying to see what's new on health tips for today, I stumbled on some intriguing article entitled: "9 Strange But True Health Tips" found in Yahoo Health. The editor of Men's Health gave some health tips he had discovered to be beneficial. Unlikely but true health tips that I believe is worth to know about. Let me summarize it to you.

Live Longer by Changing Your Name
Hmm..changing names is often done quite easy for Americans but here in the Philippines, it would probably take much of your hard earned money, effort, patience and time changing it. But I'll recommend changing your "nick name/s". According to research made in University California, San Diego, people that have "positive" names or initials have a few years longer to live compared to some who's names sound negatively. People whose names like "JOY" or "WOW" live 4-1/2 years longer than names like "DUD", "ILL", and "DED." Very fascinating, isn't it?

Keep Your Mind Sharper by Being a Jerk
Yep! You might be surprised, even I was, but the point of the author is not quite similar to what you and I expected. Here's why. According to research made by the US Administration of Aging, there is a certain mark in a life of an individual that will differentiate or determine whether he/she is young or old. When certain scenario occurs like a simple misplacement of important things like keys and eye glasses, young people tend to blame their mistakes to others (talk about immaturity), while older people tend to blame their faults in their age. Never ever use your age as an excuse, it will only make you think your old.

Break a High Fever With Your Armpits
Drinking more fluids will help lessen our body temperature during a fever, but the temperature won't stay that long. A much more effective and faster way is recommended by applying an ice pack under your armpit or near your groin. Much of the body's source of temperature is on those areas and ice has higher temperature compared to any fluid drank, thus body heat transfer is faster.

Prevent Claustrophobia by Smelling This Fruit
Being claustrophobic means you are afraid to be confined in small places. If you're claustrophobic, you'll feel suffocated and uneasy. Places like subways, elevators or even your very own closet can cause you to feel dizzy. To eliminate/prevent such feeling try sniffing an apple according to Dr. Alan Hirsch, M.D., director of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation. Green apples actually when sniffed sends signals to the brain to make you calm. Thus, small places would feel like very spacious to you after sniffing them. Try carrying one during your travel.

Disinfect a Wound With Honey
When you're in the kitchen preparing for something to eat and you accidentally cut yourself, apply the wound with honey and bandage it right away to stop the bleeding. Why so? It's because honey has powerful anti-bacterial properties! Amazing isn't it? Based on study in the Archives of Surgery, honey has the capability of destroying almost any bacteria that may infect a wound.

Stop Bleeding With This Spice
If you don't have any honey left in the fridge, do not to worry. According to Roberta Lee, M.D and vice chairman of the Department of Integrative Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center, pepper can be used to stop bleeding. Wash the wound with cold running water first, clean it and apply a small amount of pepper on the wounded area and wrap in bandage to apply pressure. Black pepper has analgesic, anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties that will stop the bleeding. Plus, it won't be painful.

See Your Tailor to Cure Back Pain
If you're experiencing back pains, one reason might be that the length of your legs are different. Steven McCaw, Ph. D. and a researcher at Illinois State University believes so. He said that just a slight imbalance in the legs would cause the spine to bend on the short side when walking or running. Continuous repetition of bending will cause back pains. To know if your legs are imbalance or not, ask your tailor. Believe it or not, a tailor can tell whether your legs are not the same in length. If you find an imbalance, consult your physician right away.

Massage Away Nicotine Cravings
If you're one of those trying to quit smoking, here's one helpful tip for you. When you are on the urge of smoking, try rubbing the skin in between your index fingers and thumbs and the center of your palms. Studies revealed by Preventive Medicine that men who do this kind of method are more likely to smoke 25% less cigarettes in a month compared to 10 people who uses only chewing gum to divert the appetite. Massaging those areas will help distract and keep a smoker's hand busy.

Drink This to Lower Your Cholesterol
If you want to lower your cholesterol level, try this dietary fiber called Metamucil. According to studies of the National Fiber Council, this supplement helps lower blood pressure, blood sugar and high risk of heart diseases.

We can actually learn from these odd tips. Hope you learned something as much as I did. I'll be posting more health tips in the future, so stay tuned. =)
