After reading the article, I was deeply saddened and at the same time got furious on those who initiated the grand and highly publicized wedding. I was so upset not only because it was against my standards, but because I know it violated the standards of God.
Disturbed about this self-proclaimed "Christian" church, I was prompted by my zeal for God's glory to uphold the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Not being curious but seeking to know the stand of this church, I searched for their website. And finally, after finding their website, I was definitely expecting what I ought to know.
Their Stand
Metropolitan Community Church declares that God loves all people unconditionally and that includes gays, lesbians, bisexuals and heterosexuals. Since Christ died for all the sins of men, homosexuals should not be excluded from the love and gift of salvation that the Lord offers. The church upholds and promotes love for everyone. Being gay or lesbian is not a sin. God created everyone to be unique and thus being a homosexual is not a sin. Quoting their claims found in their site:
"Build an intimate relationship with God without feeling sinful about your sexuality! The MCC is on a bold mission to transform hearts, lives and history."
"We promote inclusion, not division. We build bridges, not walls. We seek acceptance, not bigotry."
"With God's gift of grace we boldly declare that we're OUT, PROUD and LOVED!"
God's Standards
In order for us to know if the claims of this church are true, let us go back to the Word of God, which is the Bible. What does the bible says about homosexuality? Let's start in the Book of Romans.
"18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness..." -- Romans 1: 18 --
God hates all wickedness and unrighteousness of men who suppresses the truth.
"For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened." -- Romans 1:21 --
People who practices unrighteousness know that God exists. Although they knew God, they never glorified and gave thanks to Him. God doesn't actually need any glory from us. God is already full of glory and is satisfied with Himself. But even so, after all the undeserved blessings and love we received from Him, man as a natural sinner never gave Him any glory and gratitude. People instead continued to sin and exchanged the glory of the immortal God into anything they wanted it to be. Thus,
"Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves." -- Romans 1:24 --
Because of man's rebellion against the Creator and the Designer of everything, God Himself gave them up. God removed all the constraints in holding them up against there self-wicked will.
"26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." -- Romans 1:26-27 --
And for those who upholds and gives approval to such immoral acts that God has forbidden because it is an abomination in His sight, this is what the Bible says concerning them:
"Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them." -- Romans 1:32 --
Another important passage in the Bible that clearly warns us regarding homosexuality:
"9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." -- 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 --
What does these passages mean? The Word of God clearly says that God, being Holy and full of righteousness, will not accept those who practices such wickedness. Practices such as homosexuality. But does it mean there's no more hope for those who do these things? My friend, let's read the next verse.
"11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." -- 1 Corinthians 6:11 --
Only by the blood of Jesus Christ, that was shed on the cross of Calvary, can wash away our filthy sins. Only by His blood alone, we are refined, sanctified and justified in the presence of God! But why can a righteous and Holy God accept us in His kingdom only because of Christ's blood? My friend, by believing in Christ as our Lord and personal Saviour, that He died a painful death for our sins and rose again on the third day, we are therefore justified in God's sight! Why?? It's because God does not look at you as sinful anymore! Why?? Because you are now clothed in the righteousness and Holiness of Christ Himself! When God sees you my friend, there would be no more wrath in His heart. There would be forgiveness, mercy, grace and love that will overflow!
So what can we say then? Are those who accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour continue in doing and loving their immoral acts? Certainly and completely impossible!!!
"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come." -- 2 Corinthians 5:17 --
Moreover, reading the passage in Romans 6, Paul explains thoroughly that if you truly believed and received Jesus Christ as your Saviour, there should be newness in life.
"6We know that our old self was crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7For one who has died has been set free from sin." -- Romans 6: 6-7 --
Conclusion
My friends, many passages in the Bible obviously contradicts the teachings of this so called "Christian" church. Which will you believe, them? Or God's Word? Behold, I will tell you this, the way they chose is leading to death but God's Word is always true, and it leads to eternal life.
If you are a homosexual, God's love and gift of salvation is sufficient for you! Homosexuality is a sin. You must understand that it violates God's natural law and standards He had set during creation. Homosexuality is a disease in the soul that only the Word of God can cure. I am telling you this because as a Christian, we believe that Christ died for all sinners and God's desire is for everyone to be saved.
"...(God) who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." -- 1 Timothy 2:4 --
So are you saved?
