Eating oily and fatty foods as we all know it are not good to our health. But why do obese people find it hard  to limit their daily consumption of food? What do fats do in our bodies other than giving us hypertension and high risk of heart attacks? Here's what.

There was a recent study/experiment made in order to explain why fatty foods are quite irresistible. Scientists had tried feeding fatty foods to rats in order to see what will be it's effect on their   diet. Researchers also wanted to know whether fats give some signals in the brain that might trigger overeating. By knowing such valuable information, scientists could be able to develop a drug that will help people to lose weight.

Experiments showed that when the rats had eaten fatty foods, their bodies have activated a substance called "endocannabinoids". This substance is the one responsible for informing the brain that its time to eat. Humans and rats exhibits similar cells and molecules. Thus, people who eat fatty foods will probably behave the same way as rats behave who had eaten fats. According to study, when endocannabinoids are active, an animal will eat and eat and just continue to eat. Hindering this substance to be active, will stop abnormal eating.

The word endocannabinoids which has the same sound as "cannabis", the other name for marijuana. Endocannabinoids are quite the same as the substance present in marijuana, called THC, that delivers a strong urge or addiction to smoke more marijuana. Same goes with endocannabinoids, it stirs the desire of the animal to eat more.

Researchers also studied rats by dividing them into four groups. Each group of rats are given a different diet. Three of these diets were rich in a particular nutrient. On the first group, corn oil was fed. The second ate sugar-rich foods. The third ate foods rich in protein. While the fourth was given a well-balanced diet.

Studying every group of rats revealed that endocannabinoids were most active in rat's intestines. Since endocannabinoids is commonly linked to binge eating, scientists concluded that most group of rats that ate fatty foods were prone to overeat. In the same manner, humans also are prone to eat beyond their daily required calorie intake.

This new study opens the gate of opportunity for scientists and pharmacologists to work on a drug that might lower or hinder the activity of endocannabinoids in human intestines. Thus, people who wanted to lose weight and maintain their planned diet, this new finding can be applied to help them achieve a healthier lifestyle in eating and to prevent obesity.
