Filipino boxer AJ "Bazooka" Banal won a unanimous technical decision and retained his WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight Crown over Canadian boxer Tyson Cave in the main event match of Pinoy Pride 7: "Battle of Mactan" held in Hoops Dome, Lapu-Lapu City last Saturday evening.

Banal triumph against his foe for he was leading the scorecards in the match as it was stopped at 2 mins and 32 seconds of the eight round by the referee due to the bloody accidental headbutt happened on him at the fifth round. All three judges scored the bout in 79-73, 78-74, & 78-74 in favor of Banal. Ring physician Dr. Jose Unabia asked Tony Pesons to stop the battle as the blood on AJ's head continued dripping seriously. AJ suffered a 3 cm cut on his right eyebrow due to the accidental clash of their heads.

Boxing fans wooed the visiting fighter as he lacked offense and his style was mostly trying to evade Banal's power punches. The Canadian boxer also taunted Banal and showed off some jerky movements asking Banal to hit him. Fight fans never quite liked the fight since no action was seen extraordinarily in the match. Banal raised his professional record to 25 wins, 1 loss and 1 no contest. Cave on the other hand has 15 wins and 2 loses.

Meanwhile, Filipino fighters in the under card match, Michael Domingo and Lorenzo Villaneuva succeeded in knocking their Indonesian opponents out. Domingo improved his career record to 41 wins, 15 loses and 5 draws with 19 knockouts as he punished Richard Samosir at the sixth round of their 121-lb match. On the other hand, the undisputed Villanueva stopped Eddy Camaro on the first round of their 127-lb match by his strong punches on the left body and head of Camoro. Villanueva made his new record to 21 wins with 20 knockouts.

Other Pinoy Pride 7 matches were Albert Pagara of Maasin City knocked out Jaime Alin Jr. on the first round; Jomar Cordonillo of Tagbilaran City won by a unanimous decision over Jonathan Refugio of Bukidmon City; Jojo Entor won a unanimous decision over Cris Leon; Ryan Maano of Mandaue City knocked out Japanese boxer Yoshinubo Arai in the first round.

Pinoy Pride 7 is organized by ALA promotions in partnership with ABS-CBN Sports.
