Google offers a new and convenient way of sending SMS messages to your friends via Gmail. Yes, if you have a Gmail account in Google, then you can simply start sending messages by just following these four basic steps:

Step 1:
Log-in to your Gmail account. After logging in, on the left side of your screen, you'll see the Send SMS box above the Chat. Just enter the mobile phone number of the recipient of your message. Then, press Enter.

Step 2:
A dialog box will then appear on the screen and will prompt you to enter the Contact Name of the SMS recepient. Just key-in the name and then select which country he/she is at. Then, just click Save.

Step 3:
After pressing Save, a chat window will appear at the bottom right corner of your screen. Enter your message in the dialog box and press Enter.

Step 4:
Your message will then be sent to the mobile number you entered.

If your contact replies to you, the messages he/she sends will appear in your chat window. Take note, every SMS message you send via your Gmail account is free of charge. But this is not the case for your contact, charging usually depends upon the country's telecommunication service providers, depending if local or internatioanal SMS messages were made.
